About

The year was 1971.

The Beatles had just released their first post-break-up albums. An enterprising dirtbag named Yvon Chouinard was selling his newest pieces of climbing protection – hexentrics and stoppers – and Exum guide Bill Briggs opened extreme skiing in North America with a first descent of the Grand Teton.

Phil Teeter opened the modest doors of the Mountain Shop and welcomed the Fort Collins, Colorado community to gather in his small gear shop on Laurel Street that same year. Teeter welcomed the northern Colorado outdoors community into his store and offered them a fare shake on the best selection of high quality, high value equipment and clothing for climbing, backpacking and backcountry skiing.
